|Summary: Tools needed to create Texinfo format documentation files.|
Texinfo is a documentation system that can produce both online information and printed output from a single source file. Normally, you'd have to write two separate documents: one for online help or other online information and the other for a typeset manual or other printed work. Using Texinfo, you only need to write one source document. Then when the work needs revision, you only have to revise one source document. The GNU Project uses the Texinfo file format for most of its documentation. Install texinfo if you want a documentation system for producing both online and print documentation from the same source file and/or if you are going to write documentation for the GNU Project.
* Thu Nov 09 2006 Bipin S <bipin at trustix dot org> 4.8-6tr - Security Fix: Buffer overflow in the texi2dvi and texindex commands allows local users to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Texinfo file. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CVE-2006-4810 to this issue. * Mon Oct 17 2005 Bipin S <bipin at comodo dot com> 4.8-5tr - Security Fix: Frank Lichtenheld discovered that the "texindex" program created temporary files in an insecure manner. This could allow a symlink attack to create or overwrite arbitrary files with the privileges of the user running texindex. The Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures project (cve.mitre.org) has assigned the name CAN-2005-3011 to this issue. * Thu Mar 17 2005 Syed Shabir Zakiullah <syedshabir at comodo dot com> 4.8-3tr - Rebuilt against Official Glibc-2.3.4 * Fri Feb 18 2005 Raghu <raghu at comodo dot com> 4.8-2tr - New Upstream * Thu Sep 23 2004 Ajith Thampi <ajith at comodo dot com> 4.7-1tr - New Upstream * Fri Dec 05 2003 Erlend Midttun <erlendbm at trustix dot org> 4.6-1tr - New upstream. * Wed Jun 18 2003 Erlend Midttun <erlendbm at trustix dot com> 4.2-5tr - Big rebuild * Fri Jun 13 2003 Erlend Midttun <erlendbm at trustix dot com> 4.2-4em - Now even own /usr/share/html/textinfo - Removed the rest of info including something under /usr/share/html/info-stnd * Mon Mar 24 2003 Erlend Midttun <erlendbm at trustix dot com> 4.2-3em - Rebuilt against glibc 2.3.2. * Fri Oct 25 2002 Christian H.
