| Summary: catalogs and finds duplication in very large archives of file | |
The overriding principle in the development of finddupe is speed. finddupe can *quickly* scan very large archives of files across different volumes, and identify duplication. File stats and MD5sum data are stored in catalog files, so files do not have to be re-read each time finddupe is run, nor do they even have to be accessible. The catalog files are human readable text files, and are easy to 'grep'. finddupe keeps one catalog file per filesystem, and catalog files contain one line per file. It supports volume and file comments, and many features. Although still very much a work-in-progress, finddupe is very functional. And fast... did I mention it's fast? (Converted from a deb package by alien version 8.74.)
